Im fine with just doing a clean install, but everytime I restart I automatically get put back into the repair install. In the setupapi.log the last few lines should tell you the .inf file that is giving the problem. A typical problem: when installing Windows XP (especially over the existing one - Repair Installation), the process hangs after "34 minutes remaining" is being shown on the screen. I have read that many people have had this problem and I thought that I found the solution in a forum. Several functions may not work. i've tried 1) restarting setup (several times), including running a new one from the boot disc 2) disabled USB, network, comm, and sound from BIOS before setup.... Is there at least a way to salvage some files before I decide to through all away?
