If port 10000 is used by any other application we will get this error. There was not a line item for NDMP so I added it at port 10000, rebooted and got the same error. I then changed it to 11000, rebooted and still got In event viewer it gives the following msg:The Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers Service did not start.
Turns out Port TCP 10000 was in use by another application, wininit.exe. Matched the PID shown from the netstat to Task Manager and it was svchost.exe. If not put the following entry at the end of the fileNDMP 11000/tcpMake sure to do enter at the end of that line or the change will not take affect. I have also checked netstat and port 10000 is not in use.

The one thing I've noticed that's odd, when I open the BE remote agent utility, I get an error that it can't read from the registry. I have pushed the agent install to the domain controller (Server 2003) which installs fine. It was IIS, not sure why it was listening on port 10000 as no webpages had been configured.
