After a bit of digging around on the internet, it seemed to point to a problem with replication of data between the central site and the child site. What I did was to first remove the Child site from the list of DP's for the package. Very simple, and it worked (after restarting the SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER component)… the messages disappeared from the DISTMGR log.
