You should see messages that include something like the following text (the USB device may vary): gpsd.hotplug: gpsd_control(action=add, arg=/dev/ttyUSB0) gpsd.hotplug: launching gpsd -F /var/run/gpsd.sock These are from the gpsd.hotplug handler called to write docs to out/target/common/docs/doc-comment-check Note: there were 2 accesses to class members by means of introspection. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499981
However, you can disable it if gpsd is causing interference with other attached devices or programs. If it is continuously off, your GPS is dead or disconnected. I have tried many things listed in other forum posts so far with no success. http://getbetabox.com/failed-to/failed-to-set-up-passive-data-socket.html With the receiver plugged in and gpsd running as above, you can launch a client. If it succeeds, the problem may be in how udev is calling gpsd.hotplug, or udev may never call gpsd.hotplug. One culprit is packages like tangogps, which recommendd gpsd.
If you pull the plug on the receiver, gpsd will note the change. These will be ignored.
