Further information regarding this failure can be found at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS\Upgrade.log.
The “Domain users” group did not have any access to that OU at all. PostSetupConfigurationTaskException was thrown. It was then we saw some really bizarre behaviour. The pre-upgrade scan tool must complete without errors before you can continue with the upgrade process.
